When it comes to storage, people often assume you can throw just about anything into a container and forget about it. But in reality, there are some important rules, laws and general recommendations about what you canĀ and can’tĀ store with us at Fahey’s.

We’ve pulled together a quick guide to help you pack with confidence, avoid costly mistakes, and keep your items (and our team) safe.

šŸ˜ Things we welcome in our storage facilities

We love a well-packed storage unit, especially when it’s filled with sensible, storage-friendly items

  1. šŸ“¦ Boxes of personal items

Clothes, books, ornaments, keepsakes etc are all welcome in our storage units

  2. šŸ›‹ļø Furniture and appliances

Sofas, wardrobes, beds, washing machines can all be stored safely

  1. 🄾 Clothes and shoes

An easy way to maximise your wardrobe space, or to keep PPE / work uniforms in an accessible place

  2. šŸ–„ļø Business stock & inventory

Especially handy for online retailers, small shops, promotional items or paperwork

  1. šŸ”§ Tools and machinery

A great solution for storing power tools, building materials and site supplies for trades, maintenance and field work

  1. šŸŽ„ Out of season goods

Christmas trees, camping gear, garden furniture and other seasonal items can be stored for both households and businesses

🚫 Things that are strictly off limits

While we’d love to say yes to everything, there are a few items that are strictly off-limits for safety, legal, or hygiene reasons

  1. 🄩 Perishable Food

    • Why not?Ā It attracts pests, smells awful, and can go mouldy fast.

    • Examples:Ā Fresh fruit and veg, meat, dairy, pet food.

  2. šŸ”„ Hazardous or Flammable Materials

    • Why not?Ā They’re a fire or explosion risk.

    • Examples:Ā Petrol, paint thinner, aerosols, fireworks, gas bottles, batteries

  3. 🪓 Living Things (Yes, Really)

    • Why not?Ā Storage units aren’t safe for animals or plants.

    • Examples:Ā Pets, plants, anything that breathes.

  1. šŸ’Ž Valuables or Irreplaceables

    • Why not?Ā Insurance won’t fully cover them, and they’re better kept somewhere secure.

    • Examples:Ā Cash, jewellery, important legal documents, heirlooms, wedding dresses.

  2. šŸš” Illegal or Restricted Items

    • Why not?Ā This one should be obvious - it’s against the law.

    • Examples:Ā Stolen goods, illegal drugs, firearms, banned materials.

šŸ¤” Not Sure If It’s Allowed?

We’re always happy to help! If you’ve got something a little unusual (or you're not quite sure if it’s allowed), just give us a call or send us a message. We’ll let you know if it’s safe to store, or kindly suggest a better place for it.

šŸ“¦ Store Smart, Store Safe

At Fahey’s, we keep things simple: if it’s safe, dry, legal, and doesn’t breathe, smell or explode - you’re probably good to go. But if in doubt, ask first.
